How Is the Air Quality In Your Home?

Woman Holding Sign

Pollution is all around us. In fact, air pollution (the process where toxins and chemicals enter into the atmosphere) is a serious issue. It affects our health and the way that we breathe. Contrary to popular belief, air pollution doesn't just exist in crowded cities or in industrial areas - it can also exist in our homes.

Have you ever gotten home after a long drive home from work and felt relieved? Finally you are away from the city smog and polluted air! You can breathe easy again. Or so you thought. Unfortunately, the air quality in your home may be just as bad, if not worse, than outdoor air. Rather than being a safe haven from air pollution, your home may offer more of the same.

Indoor air pollution is a serious problem facing homeowners. It is considered one of the world's worst pollution problems and the fourth greatest threat to overall health in North America. Why is indoor air pollution such a serious issue? It can threaten the health of your family members. Poor air quality in the home has been linked to a number of serious health problems. These health problems can include difficulty breathing, sinus problems, respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and even constant cold-like symptoms. Young children, people with asthma, and the elderly are more likely to feel the effects of poor air quality in the home, however, these symptoms can impact people of any age.

Since we spend most of our time indoors, the quality of air that we breathe is important. It is estimated that most people spend 90% of their time inside... yes, 90%! That means that worrying about the pollution outside probably shouldn't be your top priority. We spend most of our time in our homes - sleeping, eating, socializing, and relaxing. It is essential that the air you breathe in most often is clean and unpolluted.

There are a number of things that can cause indoor air pollution, but the most common cause is unclean air ducts. You may not think about the cleanliness of your air ducts, but you should! Over time, dirt, dust particles, debris, mold and other contaminants can settle into your air ducts. Whenever your forced air heating and cooling system runs, air is blown throughout the air ducts, which moves the hot or cold air into each room. When your heating and cooling system moves air through these unclean ducts - which it does seven times every day! - these contaminants make their way directly into the air in your home.

Clean air ducts mean clean air! If you are concerned about the air quality in your home, your best bet is to bring in the professionals. A professional duct cleaning can dramatically improve the quality of air in your home. It can also reduce or eliminate any of the related health issues. Duct cleaning should be performed in your home every two to three years - sometimes more, sometimes less. A professional duct cleaning service can inspect your air ducts if you are unsure about whether or not you need it.

How is the air quality in your home? Take a moment to really think about it: When is the last time your air ducts were cleaned? Has anyone in your family suffered breathing related issues? If you aren't sure - find out. It is time to improve the air quality in your home.

"I noticed a difference..." - 5 out of 5 stars

I don't usually write these, but I just had to take a minute to say thank you. I had an appointment with Canaduct last week. Almost immediately after they left my home, I noticed a difference, particularly in my air. It has really improved! I cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work, and of course, the amazing results.
